Abstract

The main objective we have tried to achieve with this thesis has been to analyse the individual and collective rationality of those who have practised political violence. Throughout this thesis, we have addressed this question from various perspectives, moving from general theoretical considerations to analysing specific cases. On the one hand, we have analysed the development of ETAs collective rationality on the use of political violence. On the other hand, we have compared the individual rationality of former ETA and IRA members on the use of political violence. In the first chapter, we have presented a theoretical and bibliographic study on the conceptualisation of the phenomenon of political violence. The second chapter presents the methodology used in the thesis. The third chapter addresses the analysis of the development of ETAs collective rationality on the use of political violence. The fourth chapter presents a comparative analysis of the individual rationality of former members of ETA and the IRA on the use of political violence.
