Resumen

Due to the high pollution levels, in the last few years the need of improving the efficiency of the transportation sector has increased. In this context, transport applications powered by electric storage systems emerge as a very convenient solution. Tramways are a clear example of high efficient transport applications powered by energy storage systems. Nevertheless, in order to achieve a higher reliability in the market, it is important to properly foresee the ageing effect that the existing storage systems suffer. This paper presents an ageing model to estimate the lifetime of supercapacitors, which are widely used in the mentioned transport applications. The model is developed and validated based on experimental tests developed in real application conditions. Finally, a study case is analyzed applying the operation profile of a real tramway to the proposed model.
