Resumen

Due to the increased drought and fire risk in the Basque Country, there is a need to implement practices like silvopastoralism for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change. This way, in this survey criteria for such practices are to be defined based on landscape analysis and livestock behaviour. The sampling was realized in Gorbeia ZEC during the 2021 campaing. The analysis was realized in different buffer ranges around open pasturelands, to patch level (vegetation type and slope-range) and for each month. To observe livestock-behaviour GPS-register density was calculated for each patch. This way, Pyrenean oak woods were seen as the type of woodland that livestock preferred, especially in November due to the acorn production. At the same time, there was a gradient as the distance from pasturelands’ borders augmented in which woodland type, FCCARB and livestock type had an effect. In summary, actions to open the woodlands should be focused around pasturelands and zones like Pyrenean oak woodlands with a high potential for silvopastoralism should be managed for that purpose.
