Abstract

Establishing psychological profiles consideringthe type of sexual offense is relevant for development ofdifferentiated psychological treatments. Therefore, differ-ences in demographic, criminal, personality, psychopatho-logical, and psychopathic characteristics between peoplewho have committed sexual offenses against children andpeople who have committed sexual offenses against adultswere examined. Participants were 57 people who had of-fended children and 30 people who had offended adults, from northeastern Mexico. Instruments were the Personal-ity Assessment Inventory and the Psychopathy Checklist–Revised. Both groups displayed low levels of psychopathol-ogy, although participants who had offended adults scoredgenerally higher. Regarding psychopathy, participants whohad offended children presented more affective deficits, whereas participants who had offended adults showed agreater tendency toward social deviation, particularly to-ward antisocial lifestyle.
