Enzymes are the most efficient catalysts known capable of performing their function in an aqueous environment and at temperatures close to room temperature. The folding of single chains of synthetic polymers to give rise to single-chain nanoparticles (SCNPs) offers many opportunities for the development of enzyme-mimetic artificial catalysts: with high catalytic activity and, in certain cases, enzyme specificity. In this article, we review the most recent results obtained using SCNPs as highly efficient bioinspired nanoreactors (3 - 30 nm) for the synthesis of polymers and a variety of chemical compounds, as well as nanocontainers for the capture and release of CO2
