Abstract

The LIFE Vía de la Plata (LIFE19 CCA/ES/001188) is a pilot project chosen by the European Commission in its 2019 call of the Climate Change program (LIFE Climate Change Adaptation). It aims to build a new green-blue infrastructure corridor in Salamanca, a World Heritage city, whose route coincides with the route of the Vía de la Plata cattle trail (Transhumance route). The initiative encompasses different key elements: adaptation to climate change (CC), implementation of the blue-green infrastructure in a World Heritage city, recovery of ecosystem services (ES), Machine Learning and citizen involvement and participation. Salamanca will be the first World Heritage city to establish a multifunctional blue-green infrastructure network defined in its Special Plan for the Protection of Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity (PEPIVB 2020-35) with the aim of creating a strategy that holistically integrates natural, social, economic and heritage values to configure a territory prepared to face the new challenges of cities through nature-based solutions (SBN)
