Abstract

The diagnosis of diabetes mellitus (DM) can, for some, become a time of intense stress due to the psychosocial impact generated by the diagnosis, in addition to an exaggerated demand for maintaining weight in a normal range an extremely healthy lifestyle. Thus, some persons have a high probability of suffering from a Eating Disorder (ED), which is a chronic and complex mental illness where there is a high concern for food, weight and/ or image and the use of unhealthy compensatory behaviors in order to control weight. In Spain, the latest studies carried out coincide in indicating a prevalence rate of ED cases in the adolescent population of around 4.1-4.5%, with anorexia being 1%. This prevalence is higher if possible in people who are continually aware of their diet, such as the DM population. There are validated tools that are easy to use in the clinic to detect these cases, such as the IDC’s “Screen for Early Eating Disorders Signs”(SEEDS), Melrose Center-USA Powers et al 2016. We present a series of cases faced with this assessment scale.
