Abstract

The construction sector is facing an important goal: obtaining buildings with a low energy consumption, nearly zero. For this purpose itis necessary to use adequate tools, especially in early design stages, that facilitate the decision making. Without a correct interpretation ofclimatic, geographic and location parameters in a project, meeting the established requirements would be difficult. The climograms aretools for the analysis of hygrothermal comfort and climatic interpretation to determine bioclimatic design strategies in buildings. Accordingto specific climatic parameters of a location (temperature, humidity, solar radiation, etc.), it is possible to define the most appropriatepassive techniques (shading needs, thermal mass, night ventilation, etc) in order to obtain energetically more consequent buildings. Thischapter shows the use of the climograms (referring to an informatics application CLIMATE CONSULTANT). Moreover, different theoriesrelated to the analysis of hygrothermal comfort are collected to facilitate the interpretation of the diagrams. Finally, bioclimatic strategiesfor five different cities are illustrated: Madrid, Seville, San Sebastian, Oslo and Caracas.
