Resumen

La contaminación del aire representa actualmente el mayor riesgo medioambiental para la salud de los seres humanos, porque está relacionada con enfermedades del sistema cardiovascular, nervioso e inmune, además de sus potenciales efectos carcinogénicos. El sector industrial es uno de los principales generadores de emisiones de contaminantes atmosféricos. En este trabajo se retoma el pensamiento de Ulrich Beck, quien criticó en su libro La sociedad del riesgo mundial que la industrialización despreciara sus impactos adversos sobre la naturaleza y el ser humano, generando riesgos cuyas consecuencias tienen alcance global. El autor sugirió que puede hacerse política más allá de las instituciones representativas del Estado, a lo que denominó como subpolítica global, por tanto, se analizará si ésta puede ser una alternativa, adicional a las provenientes desde otras áreas del conocimiento, para que la sociedad civil pueda hacer frente al problema de la contaminación del aire y sus impactos adversos.
