Abstract

This paper examines the effect of gender on the propensity and intensity to export among early stage entrepreneurs, as well as the differences by gender on the representing entrepreneurs identified in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) project over the 2005- 2006 period. Results show that, after controlling for a number of factors that determine export orientation, while there is no gender difference on the propensity to export, differences arise when the export intensity is tested. We find that some significant factors determining exporting activities of male entrepreneurs are non-significant for their female counterparts, and vice versa. factors explaining the export behaviour of entrepreneurs. The study sample includes 1.247 observations
