Abstract

Family organizations encounter great difficulties to survive over time and frequently their life expectancy has been related with firm dimension (Galve and Salas, 2003). Also the family firms have great difficulties to maintain their family nature, the evolution of the family and of the firm frequently are not encompassed. Gallo (1995) calculates the survival rate of the biggest Spanish family firms (1972-1992): just 27,3% continued to be family firms but not necessarily among the largest ones. This article´s objective is to study the survival of the family businesses located in Gipuzkoa in the last thirty years.
