Abstract

The assessment of the quality of life has become in one of the priority outcomes in the clinical investigation area. For it, the adapted and validated instruments to the context where they must use is necessary. The purpose of the study is 1) to present the characteristics of the existent versions of the IDUQoL (Injection Drug User Quality of Life Scale) and 2) to offer descriptive data of the instrument adapted to Spanish. 100 subjects with opiate addiction diagnosis and included in a methadone maintenance program participated in the study. They respond to the IDUQoL -in the two versions of 17 and 21 domains - and other two instruments of quality of life -the SF-36 and EQ-5D -. Good data of reliability are obtained (alpha of Cronbach 0,92 and Intraclass Correlation Coefficient Intraclase for the test-retest of 0,79) and convergent and criterion-related validity were very appropriate (correlation coefficients with the SF-36 and EQ-5D were situated between 0,34 and 0,61, and with other criterion variable between 0,23 and 0,39; p <0,05). The finding from this study provide evidence to support the use of the IDUQoL like a specific instrument of quality of life in the addictive disease environment with appropriate characteristic in the Spanish adaptation.
