Actividad innovadora y patentadora de los lideres en nichos de mercado internacionales de la CAPV

Abstract

This report examines the investment in R&D, activity as regards the launching of firsts, patenting propensity and activities to influence the setting of (technological and safety) standards for product markets of a sample of Basque International Niche Market Leaders. It finds that their performance is strong as regards investment in R&D and launching of firsts, but not as much on the patenting front or in terms of corporate diplomacy to influence the setting of sectoral standards and norms. It concludes that companies should take more consistent action to gain and defend a competitive advantage in the marketplace, while policy makers should make companies more aware of ways to defend their inventions and support them in their intellectual property strategies.
