Abstract

Descriptions of facial and jaw fractures of human remains that have been exhumed in archaeological contexts from different time periods, ranging from medieval to recent times. Those are zygomatic arch and maxillae, nasal bones, Lefort type as well as mandibular fractures. Likewise, the aetiology of the above mentioned fractures has been analysed, in addition to the consequences of its remodellation and healing. In some cases, the fractures caused changes in the physiognomy of the faces. These changes could be of relative value during the identification processes when individualizing morphological criteria are applied.
