Abstract

Cinema has provided an accurate testimony of the turbulent developments of political violence as experienced in Spain and in the Basque Country since the last days of the Franco regime until the end of ETA. The cinematic production connected with terrorism has generated abundant academic publications that have approached this subject from diff erent perspectives. This article off ers a view of the most representative films in two broad categories: fiction and documentary, along with a mention of the most salient tendencies in academic publications on this topic. It includes a section with a brief analysis of two recent films by Borja Cobeaga: Negociador (2014) and Fe de etarras (2017), since they represent a new tendency to portray Basque political violence through the lens of a particular type of comedy. The article concludes with a look towards new fi lmic forms of exploration of political violence in short films, television series and other formats
