Abstract

Many impacts associated with climate change have been recorded in Iberian forests, which can alter their composition, structure and function. It is important to note that climate change commonly interacts with other drivers of change, hampering the quantification of the degree of contribution of climate change in the observed impacts. Among recorded impacts, changes in physiology, phenology, demography and distribution can be found, which in turn can alter the composition, structure and function of Iberian forest ecosystems. As the climate changes and climatic conditions begin to differ greatly from current conditions, an increase in impacts can be expected. In this context, it is necessary to evaluate correctly the vulnerability of populations, species and ecosystems to future climate change in order to design and apply adaptation actions to minimize the impacts and favor the adjustment to new conditions. The application of adaptation measures should be carried out using an adaptive and proactive framework, promoting a dynamic collaboration between all the actors involved in the man- agement and research of Iberian forests.
