Abstract

Introduction to programming modules are challenging both for lecturers and for students. Several authors propose the inclusion of educational robots or visual programming environments as a means to facilitate learning. This paper presents three experiences carried out implementing a pedagogical frame, which relies on the Kolb’s learning cycle, and using the above-mentioned kinds of tools. The experiences have been carried out in two programming modules (Programming fundamentals and Object oriented programming) of the first year of the computer studies grade at the Engineering school of Vitoria-Gasteiz. The paper presents a set of lessons learned from those experiences and, as a consequence, a proposal of tool integration in order to overcome the problems identified in the experiences. A preliminary evaluation of the proposal has been conducted and its results are also presented in this paper.
