Abstract
In the last years the category of the virtual has characterized the transformations of the experience connected to the development of the new information technologies. The basic aim of this paper is to argue that writing, as the first information technology, institutes many of the ontological singularities that turn the virtual into a philosophical interesting subject. For that, I distinguish three uses of the term virtual and analyse their relation with the phenomenon of writing. I conclude reflecting on the relation of hypertext with the question of philosophical reading of texts.
