Resumen

Resumen: El artículo aborda el poder explicativo de la teoría lacaniana de la ideología según ha sido formulada por la �escuela de Essex�. La cuestión será tratada a partir de un estudio de caso, el del discurso xenófobo en Tenerife. Se argumentará que nos encontramos ante una teoría con importantes claroscuros. Gracias al énfasis que la misma pone en la complicidad del sujeto con la ideología, permite dar cuenta no sólo del poder de seducción de un discurso ideológico, sino también de su propia existencia (la del discurso), cuando el mismo es internamente inconsistente. No obstante, la teoría lacaniana deja varios interrogantes sin resolver: ¿por qué... (Leer más) unos discursos ideológicos tienen más éxito que otros? ¿Por qué ciertos sujetos, y no todos, caen en las garras de la ideología? Asimismo, se subrayarán ciertas ambigüedades conceptuales que cuestionan la utilidad analítica de este enfoque.
