Resumen

Inflammatory Arthropathies (IAs) are a group of autoimmune diseases which affect joints. In addition to genetic predisposition, environmental factors, such as solar incidence, participate in its development. In relation to this environmental factor, we proposed to evaluate how Little Ice Age (LIA) (14th-19thcenturies) could influence in the genesis of AIs in the population of Vitoria-Gasteiz recovered from the Cathedral of Santa María (11th-19th centuries). The paleopathological analysis has allowed us to diagnose some diseases such as Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), Rheumatoid Arthritis (RA) and Reactive Arthritis (ReA). These results have been analysed in a diachronic perspective, considering the chronology of the burials in relation to LIA. Studies like this increase the knowledge about how people from Vitoria-Gasteiz lived and died in Medieval and Modern Ages.
