Abstract

Abstract This doctoral thesis analyses the situation of female porters in the Spanish-Moroccan border, focused on the case of Ceuta. Porters are Moroccan women who go from their municipalities in the wilaya of Tetouan to Ceuta every day in order to transport goods in bundles, from the Spanish part to the Moroccan border. This research project is articulated upon the following aspects: identification of the female porters, who they are and why they perform this activity; understanding how these women work; the determining factors and peculiarities from a political-legal perspective; and the consequences and effects that this working activity creates in the women carries. With the aim of reaching the purposes of this research project, an inductive and qualitative methodology was used. Data production techniques were participant observation and in-depth interview. The data analysis technique was developed through Grounded Theory.
