Abstract

In this article we present the results of an investigation about the order of the elements in the Basque sentence in the area of the logical-discursive prose. It was carried out with a sample of 417 pre-university Secondary Education students from 21 High Schools in the Basque Autonomous Community to whom 61 items with a reduced rear-burden were presented for correction in case the students deem unacceptable the order of the elements provided for analysis. The results show a mean value of 41,7% for the tendency to increase the rear-burden, which is located in the middle between the minimal tendency towards an increased rear- -burden shown by a set of experts (19%) and the maximum value of 60% for a sample of a university degree’s students (both values obtained in 2011). It is concluded that there is a noticeable trend towards a high rear-burden in the whole sample of High School students and, on the other hand, the data gathered are coherent with the idea of an evolution taking place on the criteria about the order of the elements in the sentence (because the sample of experts shows the lowest tendency to increase the rear-burden)..
