Abstract

In the summer of 1991, coinciding with a low river discharge period several sampling cruises were performed in the Urdaibai estuary. Salinity, nutrients, oxygen and clorophyll "a" were measured in 12 sites located along the longitudinal axis of the estuary. In these transects, which may be considered representatives of the July and August conditions, high levels of nutrients and clorophyll "a" were observed as well as low oxygen values and a strong nitrification.
