Abstract
Within the focus on «internationalization» we address, from the Basque Country, the future of the European Union (EU) in the world. The prognoses of the future entail serious difficulties, especially when looking at the global picture. The methodology can hardly be based on data and indicators, except for projections made thanks to a study of historical evolution. The proposal for assessment and prognosis is necessarily normative, based on the values we defend in the Basque Country and in Europe. Several main challenges are identified, which can be related to UN and EU strategic documents, and these challenges are then located in relation to those identified in the Basque Country Internationalization Agenda, which are analysed critically, to conclude with a proposal directed at the sustainability of our solidarity and cooperative social model and of our self-government as a People.
