Resumen
Nowadays multilingualism is an aim in education in the Basque Country and in other parts of the world. This chapter looks at the differences between monolingual and multilingual speakers and highlights the importance of using a multilingual lens such as “Focus on Multilingualism” when conducting research and teaching. The chapter also examines multilingual speakers’ perceptions on issues such as the advantages and disadvantages of multilingualism, multilingual language practices, multiple language acquisition, and emotional aspects of multilingualism. The last section of the chapter will discuss the implications of multilingual perceptions on language teaching and teacher education.
