This article presents a study of the so-called ‘culture of violence’ that stigmatizes Mexico, based on an analysis of the visibility of crime as a technology of identity: it carries out a comparative study between narco art and violence conceived as a spectacle in the logic of organized crime. Logic that also permeates official power. The study delves into the policies that underlie the ‘culture of violence’ fetishism to investigate neo-colonial practices that operate behind that concept. This examination is carried out in the specific cases of the feminicide of Ciudad Juárez and the disappearance of 43 students from Ayotzinapa, analyzing the context of criminality as well as social activism and its visibility in the digital era.
