Sedimentological and micropalaeontological (benthic foraminifers) content of three cores from the Busturia marsh in the Natural Reserve of Urdaibai have been analysed in order to know the evolution of these marsh areas duringthe final Quaternary. The study has been completed with absolute 14C 14 datations. Four assemblages of benthic foraminifers have been identified in relation to different depositional environments. These environments change from the shelf marine (bottom cores) to those of estuarine mud flat and low marsh in the middle part, up to the recent environment of vegetated middle marsh. All three cores depict emergence sequences interrupted by one transgressive marine pulse (1900+50 BP).
