Abstract
In this work, the distribution of living ostracods in the Oyambre estuary has been studied. According to the ecology of most common ostracod species recognised in the studied samples, five assemblages have been identified that correspond with five environments: a highmarsh characterised by fresh water species; a wide marsh area dominated by L. castanea and L. porcellanea; a secondary tidal channel with L. elliptica; a low marsh to upper part of tidal channel dominated by L. elliptica, L. castanea and L. porcellanea; and an outer estuary with marine influence characterised by A. convexa, C. calceolatus and S. multifora. The human interventions carried out in this estuary have modified the tidal dynamics, promoting the wide development of the marsh environment.
