Abstract
The arbustive edge-communities of the oligotrophous forests in the north-cantabrian area (Spain) are studied in this paper. A new association: Frangulo alni- Pyretum cordatae is proposed to include these formations living in the eucoline and submontane levels. This type of vegetation, independent from the Cytisetea scopariostriati units, is difficult to include in the syntaxa of higher ranks described until now for western Europe. So that a new alliance, Frangulo alni-Pyrion cordatae, included in Prunetalia, is described.
