Resum

Matricellular proteins are extracellular matrix molecules (ECM),with specific functions that distinguish them from other ECM molecules. For example, they modulate cell function and have de-adhesive properties, among others. In the last years, several molecules have been found to meet the characteristics of matricellular proteins, together with increasing evidences showing their involvement in neuropsychiatric diseases. In the present work, the characteristics of matricellular proteins and the most important functions of the main members of this group are explained, with focuse on the hevin protein functions and its involvement in neuropsychiatric diseases.
