Zusammenfassung

On many occasions, Environmental Art involves a series of practices of resistance to the hegemonic behaviours that cause profound environmental damage: pollution, global warming, loss of biodiversity, etc. In order to lay down the characteristic principles of this artistic current and to contribute to putting an end to the widespread confusion and ambiguities generated in this respect, the updated meaning of the term will be proposed and a typology will be offered to classify both its pioneering and recent works. To this end, a systematic review of definitions and associated typologies was carried out, in addition to a collection and analysis of artistic works. Finally, a reversal of the traditional model is suggested in order to clarify the objectives and favour the development and success of this artistic trend, which is increasingly present and committed. The materialisation of sustainable claims and alternatives in the works shows and warns of hidden damage; it raises new territories and possible scenarios for an improvement of the climatic situation in the Anthropocene; it makes the conflict visible, allowing the public to become aware of ecological issues; it responds to a climate of discontent, by raising sensitive expressions for criticism and promoting attitudes of resistance.
