Zusammenfassung

The aim of this paper is to analyse the unpublished manuscript Disertación sobre la inoculación de las viruelas, written by the Basque physician José Santiago Ruiz de Luzuriaga. First, its more complete version will be selected from the archival collections that keep the different versions of this text. Second, some documents and publications concerning the inoculation of smallpox in Spain in the 1770s will be analysed in order to understand why this particular text did not get printing license.
