Lo que mueve el mundo de Kirmen Uribe. Una sepultura de papel para Robert

Resumo

Kirmen Uribe’s novel Lo que mueve el mundo (2012) shares one of the main objectives embraced by the literature on historical memory: to extoll the memory of those who, in the past, suffered cruelties and to make the grief suffered by their loss more bearable. This paper analyses the literary strategies used by Kirmen Uribe in order to achieve that aim. As we will see, Lo que mueve el mundo also reflects on the role played by writers in politically conflictive contexts and it underscores the indispensable connection between literature and memory, whilst also recovering the memory of the Basque children who experienced a dramatic exile. Our analysis will, moreover, allude to the intertextual dialogue that Uribe’s novel establishes with certain works by W. G. Sebald, together with works of Basque literature in recent years.
