Zusammenfassung

Although the socioeconomic changes of the last decades require new employment relationship models, as well as the active promotion of equality between men and women, current industrial relations (IR) systems continue to be designed according to traditional models of the (male) worker. In this paper, we examine from a gender perspective some of the antecedents and consequences of this phenomenon. We review evidence of discrimination against female workers, with regard to different employment conditions. At the same time, we underscore the need to highlight the value of the full participation of women and stereotypically feminine traits as essential elements for proper organizational functioning within the context of labour relations. In relation to this, we identify strategies that IR agents (employers, unions, employees and policy makers) can develop in order to adapt IR systems to existing needs of modern organizations.
