Zusammenfassung
The bilingual Autonomous Communities of Spain are one of the natural laboratories where processes of social change take place that have an impact on peoplés cultural and linguistic identities. Our work analyses some of the antecedents and consequences of these identities. A sample of 2.446 students equally distributed among five Autonomous Communities, Cataluña, Basque Country, Galicia, Navarra and Valencia answered in an intergroup context a questionnaire on cultural and linguistic identities, ethnolinguistic vitality as well as on intergroup attitudes among other subjects. Results show that cultural and linguistic identities are clearly distinguishable and that that they combine in three identities that are sociologically significant: Autonomic Identity, Spanish Identity and Bilingual- Bicultural Identity. Satisfaction with cultural and linguistic identity , language use and egocentric beliefs are the most important antecedents of cultural and linguistic identities. The consequences of identity vary in relation to the type of identity considered, the bilingual-bicultural identity being the least ethnocentric.
